1st day: journey to Paris

Individual journey to Paris. On request, it’s possible to start the journey from several airports in Germany flying to Paris. Please ask. In the evening, flight to Antananarivo (Tana for short), the capital city of Madagascar.

2nd day: Arrival at Antananarivo

Arrival at Antananarivo (Tana), Ivato airport. Check-out and transfer to the hotel. Welcome and further information about the journey. Afterwards, we visit the zoological botanical garden Tsimbazaza and the museum. We get a first impression of the variety of Madagascar’s flora and fauna. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

3rd day: Ambatolampy

Drive to Ambatolampy to reach the foot of Tsiavajavona, the third highest mountain of Madagascar (2643 metres). We walk to the peak, and visit the village of the magician. (Madagaskar’s shaman-cult), then a picnic. We walk back through the wood, which is a spectacle in itself, where extremely old plant species are still to be found. Many rare orchids too. Hotel Rendezvous de Pecheurs in Ambatolampy or equivalent, bed, breakfast, picnic.

4th day: Antsirabe

Trip to Antsirabe in the highlands. After lunch drive to the volcanic lake, Tritiva, and pay a visit to a precious stone grinder. Many different minerals are found here. Hotel Diamant or equivalent, bed and breakfast

5th day: Miandrivazo

We got to Miandrivazo, the starting point for our three days of boating. There is enough time for a cosy walk along the Mahajilo river. Bungalows of Rasalimo or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

6th day: Boating on the Tsiribihina

Today we embark on our three-day adventure, with a boating tour through an almost untouched wilderness, with a hint of of danger. We will see plants and animals only existing in this part of the world. Overnight stay in a camp at the river, full board.

7th day: Boating on the Tsiribihina

Second day on the river. We reach the Anosin-Ampla waterfall. Opportunity to enjoy a cold shower and a wonderful place too. Overnight stay in a camp at the river, full board.

8th day: Boating on the Tsiribihina

The end of our adventure on the river. We arrive at Belo Tsiribihina. Lunch on the way. After our camping excursion, we finally we have the chance to take a shower in a bathroom. Hotel Du Menabe or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

9th day: Belo Tsiribihina

The end of our adventure on the river. We arrive at Belo Tsiribihina. Lunch on the way. After our camping excursion, we finally we have the chance to take a shower in a bathroom. Hotel Du Menabe or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

10th day: Kirindy

A piroge takes us to the road to Kirindy. Here a car will be waiting to take us to Tsingy de Bemaraha. We start a day and night excursion. We can see plants and animals which even on Madagascar are starting to disappear. We hope to have the opportunity to stay overnight in a camp on-site. Camp, full board.

11th day: Morondava

Today we drive to Morondava along the famous alley of the baobabs to the western coast, where cosy bungalows and the sea (the Mozambique-Channel) await us. Lots of time for recreation. Bungalows of Arche Noah or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

12th day: Morondava

This day is also dedicated to relaxing and for organising the further journey. Bungalows of Arche Noah or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

13th day: Tana

We drive or fly back to Tana. In a developing country you have to be prepared for all possibilities and surprises. Even scheduled internal flights can be subject to changes, so we leave room for error. Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

14th day: Manambato

We are heading for the east coast to Manambato and the Pangalanes-channel. We cross the mist-capped rain forest. There a boat is waiting to take us to the Ampitabe-lake. Overnight stay in one of the famous “bush-houses” of Akanin-Ny-Nofy. The local houses are very plain. Bed and half board.

15th day: Akanin Ny Nofy

The region of Akanin Ny Nofy is a great nature reserve situated in the eastern part of Madagascar. Beautiful beaches with clear water will invite us for swimming and recreation. Or we can visit the Palmarium park, or an almost entirely unspoiled native village. Bush-houses, bed and half board.

16th day: Tamatave - Analamazaotra

We start in the early morning. Four hours by boat on the longest canalized channel in the world will bring us to Tamatave, the most important port of Madagascar. A chauffeur meets us and brings us to the nature reserve of Analamazaotra near Andasibe. A night excursion finishes this adventurous day. Bungalow Feon’ny Ala or euquivalent, bed and breakfast.

17th day: Word of animals and plants

After breakfast we hope to meet the indri-indri, the most popular ghost of the forest for the Madagascans. It is the biggest lemur still living. The day is reserved for the study of Madagascar’s flora and fauna. Bungalows of Feon’ny Ala or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

18th day: Marozeva - Tana

Back to Tana. On the way we make a stop at the private reptile farm of Peireyras in Marozevo. With a little bit luck we will see the biggest butterfly on earth (named the komet). Hotel Gregoire or equivalent, bed and breakfast.

19th day: Tana - Flight back to Paris

This morning we visit one of the kings’ hills at Abohimanga. The rest of the day is at your own disposal. It is possible to visit the artisan market "Marche d’Artisanat" for the last souvenir or two. In the afternoon transfer to Ivato airport, where we check in for the return flight to Paris.

20th day: Arrival in Paris

Arrival in Paris in the morning. Then individual journeys back to your respective places of residence.
