Study experience journey KARA

1st day: Germany - Paris - Madagascar

Flight from Frankfurt with German Lufthansa to Paris. Form Paris to the island Madagascar with Air Madagascar.

2nd day: Arrival at Madagascar

Landing at Antananarivo (“Town of the thousands”), capital city of Madagascar an short named Tana, in the morning. City tour and visit to the zoological-botanical garden Tsimbazaza, where will observe your first lemurs. Then walk to the upper town of Tana with 14 Christian churches. You going on to see the printing-press, where the first bible and the first newspaper in the language of Madagascar were printed. As in the case of all sacred places on Madagascar there are many "Fadys" (bans) also at this place to observe. Hotel Gregoire ***, 2 Overnight stays, (B on board / D; approx. 50 km)

3rd day: Antananarivo - Ambohimanga

After breakfast trip to Ambohimanga (“the blue hill”) the holiest site and former royal town of the Merina. Up to 1896 no foreigner was allowed to go to. You are going on to see the Rova, house of the king, constructed with rosewood, which should be more than 200 years old. Strolling over the “Marche d’Artisanat”. On these market and on the different small markets where hand-woven tissues, artistic silk embroideries, coloured painted material, half precious stones and much more are offered. Everything which is added, manufactured and planted on Mad is exhibited in other places: Spices, medicinal plants, most marvellous fruits and various vegetables. Attention: These markets are not only centres of commerce and news, also of pickpockets! In the evening you are invited to a typical Madagascar dinner with folkloric entertainment Hotel Gregoire ***, overnight stay (B/D; approx. 50 km)

4th day: From Tana to Andasibe

After breakfast a cosy trip via Ambatolampy (town of the rocks), passing highland villages to Antsirabe (where there is much salt). During a tour with the Pousse-Pousse you make yourself confessed with the place in the highlands. The surroundings are rich to volcano seas and thermal springs. Hotel Diamant ***, overnight stay (B/D; approx. 180 km)

5th day: From Antsirabe to Fianarantsoa

You cross the native country of the tribe of Besilea, which places paddy- terraces in narrow valleys and at steepest slopes. The roads to Ambositra (where are many cattle) are partly in bad condition. You visit the monastery of the Benediktiner and drive forward to Fiananrantsoa via fertile hilly region. Sightseeing. Two overnight stay (B/D, approx. 240 km)

6th day: Day excursion national park Ranomafana

The golden Bambuslemur discovered only 1987 and the smallest frog of the world live in the unique national park Ranomafana. You find out the secrets of the park on a round walk. (B/D; approx. 120 km)

7th day: To the highland of Horombe

You travel to Ambalavaio (“the new town”) and you visit a workshop, where in former times the tribe of the Antaimoro - originally coming from Arabian Countries - made the famous paper. They produced the paper to write their knowledge of the astrology, trade art and mathematics down. You come to the Isalo massif on partly arduous runaway on the edge of the Horombe highland to Ranohira along the Andringitra-mountains. Overnight stay Hotel Orchidee** (B/D; approx. 290 km)

8th day: Isalo national park

Today we start a walk through the Isalo massif, passing canyons, finally find waterfalls and oasis. With a little bit of luck you’ll see lemurs and black parrots. Picnic midst of terrific landscape. Against the later afternoon back to your hotel. Overnight stay Hotel Le Joyau del Isalo**. (B/D; approx. 12 km)

9th day: Ranohira - Tulear

Passing over the half-desert you will see palmtrees, Baobabs and wooden tombs we go to Tulear (Toliara). Tulear is a former pirate stronghold. This region is inhabited by descendants of the Masai-herdsman. Overnight stay/Hotel Capricorne*** (B/D; approx. 270 km)

10th day: From Tulear to Fort Dauphin

In case of the flight schedule transfer to the airport and flight to Fort Dauphin. Fort Dauphin is the most beautiful city of Madagascar, because it’s surrounded on three sides by the ocean. Hotel Le Dauphin*** or equivalent (B/D)

11th day: Market of Amboasary

Via Amoasary and going on of the runaway you drive to Berenty. On the way you see Euphorbia-forests, gigantic Mango and Litchi-trees, carnivore plants and Antanosy tombs. An evening walk to observe the night active lemurs like Mouse-maki and Fossa. Don’t forget your flashlight! Overnight stay Bungalow Berenty Lodge**. (B/D; approx. 120 km)

12th day: Famous Lemur Reserve Berenty

Today's morning serves for the observation of the animals and plants in the reservation once again. In the afternoon the journey declines to Fort Dauphin again. Overnight stay Hotel Le Dauphin*** (B/D)

13th day: From Berenty to Tana

In the early morning another walk : With a little bit of luck you’ll see Katta and Sifaka lemurs, giant tortoises, flying dogs, cactus and bottle trees. Passing through a sisal-plantation back to Fort Dauphin and flight to Tana. Overnight stay Hotel Gregoire***. (B/D; approx. 150 km)

14th day: Farewell to Madagascar

Time to your convenience in Tana. Possibility for further sightseeing and last shopping together with the guides. Room at the hotel for use during the day. In the evening transfer to the airport and later departure to Paris. (B/D on the aeroplane; approx. 80 km)

15th day: Arrival in Europe

Arrival at Paris in the morning. Continuation of the flight with Lufthansa to Frankfurt.
